Galen Johnson
Galen comes from a family of passionate educators, school leaders, and coaches. His professional experience has always centered around promoting the success of children, including working in foster care, coaching high school and college cross country and track & field, and teaching middle and high school physical education in the East Orange School District.
Galen was the Director of Youth Leadership Development at The North Ward Center, where he led numerous programs and activities for youth including a Little League Baseball and Softball program, and the largest youth basketball league in Newark. These programs provided structured activities for over a thousand kids yearly.
Most recently, he was the Director of External Relations for the New Jersey Children’s Foundation (NJCF) based in Newark where he led all matters related to local partnerships and government relations. He managed all local advocacy partnerships, supported NJCF’s state advocacy partnerships and communications, and played a leading role in supporting the development and success of local grantees and partner organizations with nearly $500K in community based grants and thought partnership during his tenure.
A graduate of The College of New Jersey and St. Mary’s College of California, Galen is a proud supporter of all Philadelphia sports teams and jogging in the occasional 5K. He resides in Essex County with his wife Mikaela (a teacher) and their children Gia and Wes.
