Charter Schools Program Grant
The Charter Schools Program (CSP) Grant provides federal funding to support the creation, expansion, and replication of public charter schools through a competitive subgrant program.
Supporting the growth of high-quality public charter schools in New Jersey
On September 30, 2020, the New Jersey Public Charter Schools Association (NJPCSA) was awarded a $63.2 million Charter School Program (CSP) grant from the US Department of Education to catalyze the growth of high-quality public charter school options across the state. NJPCSA will act as a pass-through entity, using federal funds to administer a competitive subgrant program for which the operators of new, expanding, and replicating schools will be eligible.
Call for Peer Reviewers: NJPCSA CSP Round VIII
The New Jersey Public Charter Schools Association (NJPCSA) is seeking qualified peer reviewers for its 2026 CSP Round VIII subgrant competition!
Reviewers will evaluate and score up to four applications, provide written feedback, and participate in team preparation sessions and applicant capacity interviews. We welcome applicants with experience in charter school academics, operations, finance, or application review.
Compensation is $750 per completed application review, up to $3,000 for four applications.
Key dates and commitments:
- Apply by November 30, 2026. Selected reviewers will be notified in early December.
- Training: Week of December 7, 2026. Complete prework and attend one required live virtual training. The application includes available training times.
- Application review: December 18, 2026–January 15, 2027. Commit approximately 15–30 hours to reviewing, scoring, and providing written feedback.
- Interview preparation: January 19, 2027. Attend one combined team session, approximately 45 minutes per assigned application.
- Applicant capacity interviews: January 20–22, 2027. Attend three to four interviews, each scheduled in a two-hour block that includes reviewer discussion.
Please tentatively hold 9:00 am–3:30 pm ET on January 19–22. Reviewers will attend only their scheduled sessions, with no sessions beginning before 8:00 am in their local time zone. Final schedules will be confirmed by December 18. Reviewers must participate from a computer to review materials, engage with applicants, and complete feedback.

Round 8 CSP Subgrant Competition Open
NJPCSA will open a new CSP subgrant competition on Monday, November 2, 2026, for eligible new, expanding, and replicating public charter schools in New Jersey.

The application deadline is Monday, December 14, 2026, at 5:00 PM. Applicants must first submit a Letter of Intent and eligibility checklist. NJPCSA will review eligibility before providing access to the full application.
