TJ Best

As Senior Advisor, TJ is deeply involved in NJPCSA’s legislative agenda, working directly with local, state, and federal officials. He also supports school leaders in navigating regulatory systems and engaging around local issues of concern.

TJ has almost two decades of experience at every level of government having worked in the United States Congress, New Jersey State Assembly, New Jersey Department of Education, served as President of the Paterson School Board, and currently as County Commissioner for Passaic County.

Born and raised in Paterson, TJ got involved in public service at a very young age, advocating for funding for recreation and after-school programs as president of Eastside High School’s student government. His passion for civic engagement followed him to Rutgers University where he served as convener of the dean’s Diversity Advocacy Board, chairperson of the president’s Student Advisory Board, and head of the Rutgers University Voting Campaign.

TJ is a true community servant and advocate for young people. He is happily married to Kyona—a teacher at Passaic County Tech—and is a proud father to two beautiful children.
